RFA Flyweight Champion Zach Makovsky Tapped to Face Scott Jorgensen at UFC on Fox 9

Less than 24 hours after announcing that John Dodson had to withdraw from the Dec. 14 UFC on Fox 9 fight card, UFC officials have already found a replacement.

MMAWeekly.com sources confirmed that RFA flyweight champion Zach Makovsky would replace Dodson, facing Scott Jorgensen at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

Dodson himself was a replacement for the injured Ian McCall, but withdrew due to a reported knee injury.

Makovsky (16-4) is a former Bellator bantamweight champion. He made his flyweight debut earlier this year, defeating Claudio Ledesma at CFFC 24. Makovsky then went on to defeat Matt Manzanares at RFA 11 in November.

He accepted the fight with Jorgensen just two weeks removed from winning the RFA belt.

Jorgensen (14-7) has been in and out of the bantamweight title picture for quite some time. He’s coming off of a rough patch, losing three of his last four bouts, including his last, to friend and former training partner Urijah Faber at the TUF 17 Finale in April.

Now, Jorgenson has decided to regroup in the 125-pound division. His lone title shot at 135 pounds was a unanimous decision loss to current UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz in December of 2010. He’s hoping to get back in the title picture, only this time he intends to do it at flyweight.
