• American David Wise became the first gold medal winner in halfpipe skiing Tuesday with a score of 92.00 on his first run. • The Dutch speedskaters have done it again. For the fourth time in these Olympics, the Netherlands swept the speedskating podium, this time in 10,000 meters. While the Dutch dominance wasn’t a big surprise, the fact that favorite Sven Kramer, who was looking for redemption in the event after being disqualified during the 2010 Vancouver Games, finished second to Jorrit Bergsma. The Dutch now have 20 medals — all in speedskating — and are at the top of the overall medal count with the United States.

• The Olympics had its first photo finish Tuesday when Norway's Emil Hegle Svendsen started celebrating his victory in the 15-kilometer mass start race a little prematurely and allowed French rival Martin Fourcade to make one last-ditch effort for the gold. Fourcade slid his ski forward and came within one-tenth of a second of stealing the gold medal.
