While the days of strolling into your local shop with a mere quid in your pocket and sauntering out laden with sweet delights may be long gone, the soaring price of one particular chocolate treat always gets Brits hot under the collar.

The humble Cadbury's Freddo, often regarded as an emblematic snack harking back to simpler times, once only set you back 10p during the early noughties. Now, however, this cheeky green frog embossed inscription will dent your wallet by over double that amount - coming in at 25p per bar.

But fear not, budget-conscious shoppers. Aldi has risen to the occasion, primed and ready to offer you a more cost-effective substitute known by the name of Deeno.

Set in packs of ten, these Dino snacks offer a King Kong-sized bargain for just £1.99, earning applause from online admirers.

However, things took a turn for the quirky when a shopper an error when setting up Deeno and Freddo as rivals in the clash of the confections upon requesting a caramel version, a feature also offered by the Freddo brand.

Michelle Hodge, the culprit bargain hunter, took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice her admiration for Deeno, writing: "I absolutely love these little Deeno bars. Do you think you may bring out a caramel-like that other brand that's a frog? " "10 bars for £1.99 BARGAIN! You'd only get 8 frogs."

Not one to shy away from a bit of banter, the supermarket retorted with a cheeky comeback, appearing to make light of the comparison and alluding to Freddo's lofty pricing strategy, with a simple: "Don't ever compare us to that overpriced amphibian again."

Internet users found themselves in fits of laughter following the entertaining exchange, with some even vowing to branch out and give Aldi's dinosaur-themed offering a whirl.

With glee, one user added their voice to the discourse: "This is an attack on the Finest Chocolate Bar Ever Made. I shall buy a pack later and see if they compare.."

One person chimed in with praise, saying: "Nah but caramel Deeno is a great shout," while another added after a movie experience: "Freddos after watching Jurassic Park."

Yet, not all fans have been able to get their hands on the treats, as they're limited to certain shops. A disappointed shopper remarked: "These are a myth...never seen them and look every time I go in.."

Aldi responded to the elusive nature of the sweets, stating: "Sorry but, they're not available in all stores. Where about are you and we'll pass it along?"

Cadbury has yet to respond to requests for comment.
