Bellator Bringing Kimbo Slice Back to the Cage
If 36-year-old Phil “CM Punk” Brooks can sign with the UFC, with zero mixed martial arts experience; why can’t 40-year-old Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, who has six professional bouts to his credit, make a return to the cage?
He can. And he will. Under the Bellator MMA banner.
MMAWeekly.com confirmed an initial report by CombatPress.com that Kimbo has been inked by the Scott-Coker-led promotion for a return to mixed martial arts competition. An announcement of his return is expected during Friday night’s Bellator 132 broadcast on Spike TV.
Kimbo made his way to mixed martial arts after becoming a YouTube sensation for his street-fighting prowess. His first MMA fight was an exhibition bout against former boxing world champion Ray Mercer, but he was then quickly snapped up by EliteXC.
He fought to a 3-1 record under the EliteXC banner before joining the cast of The Ultimate Fighter 10. Kimbo lost to eventual TUF 10 heavyweight tournament winner Roy Nelson in the preliminary round, but won a decision over Houston Alexander on the series finale.

Kimbo fought one more UFC bout after the finale, losing to Matt Mitrione, and was then cut from the roster. That was in May of 2010.
He has since been fighting in low-level boxing bouts, where he has amassed a 7-0 record, knocking out all but one of his opponents.
There had been no confirmation of Kimbo’s Bellator debut date or his first opponent at the time of publication, although the promotion has been trying to wedge its way into the Brock Lesnar sweepstakes, should the current WWE champion decide to return to MMA. His current WWE contract reportedly comes to an end in March.
