Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have been treated to a new trailer of the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine - but the latest footage for the blockbuster movie features a rather unique guest.

Peggy, a pug-Chinese crested cross from East Yorkshire who was last year crowned 'Britain's Ugliest Dog', is starring as 'Dogpool' in the upcoming superhero film. In the trailer released on Monday, fans of both the MCU and Peggy all got their first glimpse of Peggy in action.

A celebrity in her own right with nearly 75,000 Instagram followers, Peggy's page features numerous posts of her in full costume as a canine variant of the 'merc with the mouth' - or, in this case, bark.

The film, which is the latest instalment in the MCU 'Multiverse Saga', will see the return of popular Marvel characters Deadpool and Wolverine as the title suggests. Hugh Jackman first portrayed Logan, aka Wolverine, way back in 2000 in the debut instalment of the X-Men franchise and became an instant fan-favourite character. He was last seen in 2017's Logan, which many considered the perfect send-off to a character who played a major role in kick-starting the modern craze for superhero movie franchises.

Peggy wrapped filming of Deadpool & Wolverine on January 24 and celebrated with a nap, as well as apparently leaving actor Ryan Reynolds "a very special warm, personal gift in his trailer".

The new preview for the film sees Wade Wilson/Deadpool recruited to save the entire multiverse, while Wolverine officially joins the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which included the rights to the X-Men characters and Deadpool.

In an action-packed snippet, Dogpool can be seen giving Deadpool a slobbery kiss as Wolverine looks on with disgust. The film releases in cinemas on July 26.
