Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos 3 Likely to Headline UFC 166 in Houston

UFC 166: Velasquez vs. dos Santos 3 Official Weigh-in Results

The UFC is headed back to Houston in October for an event that will likely be headlined by a rubber match between UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.

UFC president Dana White relayed the return to Houston and likely headliner at Thursday’s UFC 161 media scrum in Winnipeg.

The return to Houston, at least for the time being, rules out longstanding rumors of an event at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

White shot down any talk of Cowboys Stadium, adding that the Houston event would be in an arena. The UFC has made two trips to Houston in the past, both of which took place at the Toyota Center.

The October event would likely be dubbed UFC 166 and return to the Toyota Center.

Velasquez vs. dos Santos 3 came to fruition after each man won his respective fight at UFC 160 in May.

Velasquez successfully defended his belt against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, which was his second victory over the big Brazilian. In the night’s co-main event, dos Santos knocked out Mark Hunt to earn a return shot at regaining the belt he once held.
