Notts County manager Keith Curle praised a special performance after his side edged an incredible encounter at Wycombe 4-3 that not only kept their play-off hopes alive but also relegated their opponents.

The Magpies came from behind three times before Alan Judge struck a spectacular winner in the third minute of stoppage time, but it meant a return to League Two after just one season for the defeated Chairboys.

Curle said: "Obviously I'm feeling elation right now, but I had to go through disappointment, anger, frustration, joy, happiness and disbelief - good and bad. I said a couple of weeks ago that if we wanted to get promoted that we had to get something special out of that changing room and we got more than that."

He added: "It was probably not so much about the performance, but the result and it was frustrating at times because we had to chase the game so much.

"But sometimes you learn a lot from being behind and we've seen the players' reactions and their endeavour in their play which is pleasing.

"But sometimes you put yourselves on the front foot putting teams under pressure and our desire to put ourselves in the box to get on the end of things was fantastic, though I've never been involved in a game like that as a coach or manager before!"

Wycombe manager Gary Waddock blamed the number of goals his side have conceded this season as the main reason for their relegation. He said: "I think that performance just summed the season up, where we've competed against a good side which we've done throughout the season.

"But we've conceded far too many goals and that has meant that we've not been able to pick up the points total that we've needed.

"We've scored goals, but as a group we've conceded far too many and we've been in positions in games where we've got ourselves in front and teams have been able to peg us back.

"We've not been able to see things out in games like this and that performance sums up our season. The game's never over until it's over and they took a chance where they were throwing bodies forward."
