Dan Henderson vs. Gegard Mousasi Takes UFC on FOX 14 Co-Main Event Slot

Shortly after announced Alexander Gustafsson vs. Anthony Johnson as the UFC on FOX 14 headliner, UFC officials on Wednesday added an intriguing co-main event pitting Dan Henderson against Gegard Mousasi. The middleweight bout has been verbally agreed to.

UFC on FOX 14 takes place on Jan. 24 at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm. Tele2 is a multi-purpose stadium with a retractable roof that seats 30,000.

At 44 years of age, retirement questions constantly swirl around Henderson, but the former Strikeforce and Pride 205-pound champion has showed no indications that he is ready to set the sun on his career. Having lost four out of his last five fights and coming off of submission loss to Daniel Cormier, this becomes an extremely important fight for Henderson.

His legendary status buys some added leeway, but even Henderson will have to put some wins in the bag if he wants to remain on the roster.

Also a former Strikeforce champion, Mousasi (35-5-2) is also in need of a victory. He is 2-2 since arriving in the Octagon in early 2013, but he has lost two his last three, including getting choked out by Jacare Souza in his most recent bout in September.

With nearly 30 years of fighting between them, Henderson vs. Mousasi is a strong addition to the UFC’s first stadium event in Europe.
