Demetrious Johnson Gets a Fight; Will Defend Flyweight Title at UFC 186
After months of waiting, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson finally has a fight booked.
UFC officials on Tuesday revealed that Johnson would return to the Octagon to put his belt on the line against streaking Japanese 125-pounder Kyoji Horiguchi. The two will meat in the co-main event of UFC 186 on April 25 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, making the fight card a dual championship bill.
A previously announced bantamweight championship rematch between current titleholder TJ Dillashaw and the man he defeated for the belt, Renan Barao, headlines the card.
Johnson (21-2-1) is the first and only UFC flyweight champion. He is currently on a seven-fight victorious streak, which includes winning the inaugural 125-pound UFC title.
He hasn’t fought since September of last year, though, waiting for the contenders to sort themselves out.
During that time, Horiguchi (15-1) has emerged as the top contender, at least, the top contender that can make the 125-pound limit. John Lineker has been trying to get a shot at Johnson, but has failed to make weight in four of his eight scheduled UFC flyweight bouts.
Horiguchi, however, has won nine consecutive bouts, including all four of his UFC bouts. He is coming off of a cornerstone victory over Louis Gaudinot at UFC 182 in early January.

The addition of Johnson vs. Horiguchi to the UFC 186 fight card seems to have knocked a pivotal welterweight bout from the fight card.
In announcing the flyweight title bout, UFC officials noted, “The previously scheduled bout between welterweights Rory MacDonald and Hector Lombard has been removed from the card and updates for both fighters will be provided when available.”
