I deserve a farewell series, says disappointed Chanderpaul

Johannesburg, May 28 (ANI): Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who is disappointed with the manner in which his international career has come to an end, says that he has not retired from cricket. Chanderpaul was omitted from the West Indies training squad ahead of their two Tests against Australia following his poor form in the two recent series, where his average dipped to little more than 16 over a stretch of six matches. Clive Lloyd, chairman of the West Indies Cricket Board, said that it was the time to look to the future and give younger batsmen in the region an opportunity following an announcement at the weekend that the veteran of 164 Tests was not included in the 12-man training squad that will be based in Barbados ahead of the first of two Tests to be played against Australia. However, the left handed batsman said that his request to finish up with the Australian series was not too much to ask for, Sport24 reported. He insisted that this would give him a chance to acknowledge his supporters at home and that he should not be pushed into retirement. However new head coach Phil Simmons emphasised that selecting a West Indies team had nothing to do with sentiment and was all about picking the best available players to compete against a formidable Australian side.
