Ding blasts 'rubbish' Crucible crowd
Ding Junhui became the latest snooker player to court controversy when he slammed the conduct of the crowd at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield following his 10-9 loss to Ryan Day in the World Championship first round.
Only days after Mark Williams described the venue as a "s*** hole" and Mark Allen castigated Chinese players for cheating after his loss to qualifier Cao Yupeng, Ding, 27, did not hold back in airing his opinion.
China's Ding - a semi-finalist in the tournament a year ago - squandered several chances in blowing a 9-6 lead as world number 35 Day hit back to win four successive frames.
Ding - the seventh seed to exit the tournament in the first five days - said: "I don't think the tables were right, I don't think the fans were right. It was all rubbish.
"They just kept shouting. People say Chinese fans are no good, but I'm here and what do they do?"
Asked if he felt the behaviour of the crowd was acceptable, Ding replied: "No."
Ding has lost five times in the first round of tournaments this season.
"I didn't think there was any calling out at the wrong time," said Day.
"Obviously with a match like that everyone who was watching gets right behind whoever they want to win and I didn't notice there was any calling out when a player was on the shot.
"If there's calling out after someone's left an opportunity or re-entered the arena, that's fair enough."
