Hector Lombard Wants to Fight at UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane After Successful Welterweight Debut

Hector Lombard has made a late plea to fight in front of his family at UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane on Dec. 6 (Dec. 7 in Australia) after a successful welterweight debut, knocking out Nate Marquardt at UFC 166 in Houston on Saturday night.

Lombard is Cuban born, but has adopted Australia as his home country.

“I want to fight in front of my son, friends and fans in Australia,” Lombard said post-fight.

He joined the UFC as a middleweight in July of 2012, but after going 1-2 in his first three fights, the decision was made for him to drop down to welterweight.

“A few people doubted me that I could make 170 (pounds), but I did it easier than when I was 185,” Lombard said. “I think Dana White, Joe Silva, and the rest of the UFC was right for me to cut down to 170.”

Lombard's only previous win in the UFC before Saturday night was on the Gold Coast in Australia, where he knocked out the recently exiled Rousimar Palhares.

“He looked great tonight,” UFC president Dana White said. “Dan Lambert texted me right after the fight and said come on, give him a fight in Australia. You know what Joe Silva is like, he said that card is packed. We'll see if we can squeeze him in on the card.”

On the UFC Post Fight Show on Fox Sports 2, Chael Sonnen made a plea for Nick Diaz to make a comeback to fighting and step in the Octagon with Lombard, saying that the Cuban was simply undersized at middleweight.
