Henry Cejudo Gets Another Shot at Flyweight at UFC 185 in Dallas

Henry Cejudo Faces Jussier Formiga at UFC Fight Night 78 in Mexico

Following a successful, if delayed, UFC debut at bantamweight, Olympic gold medalist wrestler Henry Cejudo is getting another shot at flyweight.

UFC officials on Monday announced that Cejudo, after debuting at bantamweight, would be allowed to make another attempt at 125 pounds when he faces Chris Cariaso at UFC 185 on March 14 in Dallas.

Cejudo (7-0) was slated to make his Octagon debut at UFC 177 last August, but his fight with Scott Jorgensen was cancelled on the day of weigh-ins due to medical concerns after Cejudo had trouble cutting weight.

The UFC gave him an ultimatum. Cejudo could make his UFC debut at 135 pounds or walk away. He debuted at UFC on FOX 13 in December, winning a unanimous decision over Dustin Kimura.

Despite have numerous issues making 125 pounds in the past, several times prior to his UFC debut, officials are giving the former Olympian another chance to return to the weight class he would prefer to fight at when he fights in Dallas.

He’ll face no easy task for his first UFC bout at flyweight, however, as he will step into the Octagon opposite Chris Cariaso, who is currently the No. 9 ranked fighter in the UFC’s 125-pound division.

Cariaso (17-6) also enters the fight with something to prove, having had a three-fight winning streak halted last September when current flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson submitted him.

Currently 4-3 at flyweight, Cariaso needs this victory as much to stay relevant in the title picture, as Cejudo needs to make weight to maintain his spot on the roster.
