John Lineker's Weight Issues May Have Cost Him a UFC Title Shot

John Lineker vs. Alptekin Ozkilic is Explosive Addition to UFC Fight Night: Cerrone vs. Miller

UFC flyweight John Lineker has fought five times in the UFC’s famed Octagon, but has failed to make weight three times, including his last two outings.

His weight issues may have cost the 23-year-old Brazilian a title shot.

“He’s so good that if he had made weight the three times that he missed, he’d probably have a title shot right now,” said UFC president Dana White following UFC Fight Night 30 in Manchester, England, on Saturday.

Lineker (23-6) is on a four-fight winning streak with finishes over his last three opponents. He’s a hard-hitting, talented young fighter with endless potential, but not making weight has cost him percentages of his fight purses and now a possible shot at champion Demetrious Johnson.

American Top Team reached out to the UFC and Lineker offering to help.

“Dan Lambert, for those of you who don’t know who he is, he runs American Top Team down in Florida. He’s probably one of the best guys in the sport and has been since before we owned this company, and he hit us up tonight and said, ‘let’s get this kid down to Florida training, get him on the Dolce Diet, and make sure this kid can cut weight,’” said White.

Lambert has played a key role in the careers of many fighters. He’s an icon in the sport and Lineker would benefit from his knowledge and expertise.

“He’s going to get him sorted out,” said White.
