Mrowiec to leave Hearts

Adrian Mrowiec

Adrian Mrowiec is hoping to finish his Hearts career with a William Hill Scottish Cup final appearance against Hibernian at Hampden, as the Gorgie club confirmed his contract will not be renewed.

The 28-year-old Polish midfielder follows Ian Black and David Obua in being told he is being released as Hearts look to cut their wage bill after being late with monthly payments to players on several occasions this season.

Mrowiec, who returned to training with the first team on Wednesday after recovering from a knee injury, is eager to sign off with an appearance at the national stadium on May 19.

"These things happen in football," he told Hearts News.

"I have had a really good time here as have my family. Maybe we will be back one day, who knows.

"As for the future I don't know what will happen but going back to Poland is obviously something I will think about.

"Maybe my last game for Hearts could be the Scottish Cup Final! What a way to finish that would be.

"My knee feels good so I hope everything is okay.

"This weekend against St Johnstone will be too soon for me but maybe if I can get some action against Celtic the following Sunday, which I think is more likely, I might have a chance of making the final."

A Hearts spokesperson said: "Adrian proved popular with the fans during his time here thanks to his combative style on the park. We would like to wish him well as he embarks on the next stage of his career."
