ONE FC Rise of the Kingdom Results: Adriano Moraes Crowned Inaugural Flyweight Champion

Adriano Moraes showed exactly why he was such a strong favorite going into his fight with Geje Eustaquio at Friday’s ONE FC: Rise of the Kingdom, taking less than two rounds to submit the tough Filipino with a slick guillotine choke.

The first five minutes of the fight was almost entirely bereft of action, but once Moraes started to find his rhythm Eustaquio simply could not live with him and was on the wrong end of two hard right hands that left him badly wobbled.

Moraes is a master at switching unexpectedly from striking to takedowns and once Eustaquio was hurt, he immediately scored a double leg takedown. The Filipino was able to get to his feet, but the Brazilian spotted an opportunity and jumped for a guillotine.

Moraes is a specialist in chokes and for Eustaquio there was no way out and the tap was inevitable. It’s the first time the Filipino has ever been stopped. The new ONE FC champion now holds a 12-1 record and is going to be difficult to depose, while the vanquished challenger drops to 6-3.

The co-main event also finished in a second-round Sub with UFC and Strikeforce veteran Caros Fodor finishing Vincent Latoel with a rear naked choke late in the opening round to take his record to 9-4, while the Dutchman drops to 16-14-2.

The Cambodian 145-pound Grand Prix finished in anticlimactic fashion when Chan Rotthana was disqualified due to an illegal stomp. Sam Angdun was unable to continue, but was still handed a victory, which takes his record to 5-2. Chansin is now 2-1.

Another disappointed Cambodian was Suasday Chau, who is based in Australia, but saw his homecoming spoiled by a first-round TKO loss at the hands of Arnaud Lepont, which was also marred by an illegal stomp.

It did not look deliberate and Lepont was yellow carded, but Chau was probably still feeling the effects when the fight restarted and was powerless to prevent the French fighter landing a barrage of punches and elbows to take him to the 11-4 mark and drop the Khmer fighter to 4-4.

In the other international action, the Singaporeans had a mixed night with Amir Khan putting in a very impressive debut to beat the more experienced Jian Kai Chee by first round TKO, dropping the Malaysian featherweight down to 4-5.

Radeem Rahman didn’t fare so well and suffered the first loss of his career when he was outstruck by Sung Ming Yen. The Singaporean was consistently beaten to the punch and sees his record drop to 2-1, while the Taiwanese bantamweight moves up to 4-1.

The action took place at the Koh Pich Theatre in Phnom Penh. It was ONE FC’s first ever show in Cambodia and the third consecutive event in which the Asian promotion has moved into a completely new territory, after recent cards in Taiwan and the UAE.
