Teixeira Injury Nixes Fight with Evans, Bigfoot vs. Mir Now Headlines UFC Fight Night 61
The UFC Fight Night 61 main event between Glover Teixiera and Rashad Evans has been nixed.
Teixeira had to withdraw from the bout due to injury. His manager, Ed Soares, confirmed the injury to MMAWeekly.com following an initial report by MMAFighting.com.

He said that Teixeira tweaked an existing injury to his knee that he suffered in his October bout with Phil Davis. The Brazilian needs about six weeks to rehabilitate the injury, which puts him out of the Feb. 22 bout in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Instead of trying to find a suitable opponent for Evans, UFC officials confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that they have moved the Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva vs. Frank Mir heavyweight bout from the UFC 184 fight card in Los Angeles to the headlining slot in Brazil.
Silva (18-6-1) enters the fight looking for his first win in over two years by the time fight happens. In his previous three outings, “Bigfoot” has gone 0-2-1, and his most recent fight came to an end with a first-round knockout at the hands of Andrei Arlovski in September.
Mir (16-9) is also coming into the fight off of a bad stretch, having experienced the longest losing streak of his career at four. The last time Mir experienced a win was in December 2011 when he submitted Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 140.
It’s unclear what is next for Evans and Teixeira. The UFC has not yet said whether it would attempt to keep the fight intact and reschedule for a later date or possibly attempt to line up another fight for Evans before Teixeira is able to return.
While Teixeira was hoping to rebound after losing both of his fights in 2014, Evans has been on the sidelines nursing injuries since November of 2013.
UFC Fight Night 61 takes place on Feb. 22 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
