Top Gear superfan dressed as 'The Stig' runs half marathon - stopping at every set of red traffic lights

Top Gear' superfan Miles Taylor, 20, sparked a frenzy among onlookers and fellow runners as he sprinted the 13.1-mile course

His identity has intrigued viewers of the TV show 'Top Gear' for years.

But this weekend 'The Stig' completed the Bath Half Marathon - and even stopped at every set of red traffic lights en route.

'Top Gear' superfan Miles Taylor, 20, sparked a frenzy among onlookers and fellow runners as he sprinted the 13.1-mile course dressed as the character from the popular BBC car show.

The white-suited stoic driver can normally be seen speeding around a race track in the latest luxury car.

But Miles completed the half marathon in a respectable two hours and 25 minutes.

Miles, a trainee Met police officer from Leatherhead, Surrey, said: "It was just one of those crazy ideas, I love Top Gear and wanted to go all out.

"I have always said to myself at some point I have to dress up as the Stig because he is one of my icons.

"It was very hot, especially when the rain starting coming, I got a bit fogged up and the suit became very heavy.

"I thought about stopping at the traffic lights on a spur of the moment really.

"When I saw a traffic light was on red I thought I would stop and fold my arms and just stare at it like the Stig does.

"The crowd got really behind it, it was a great motivation, it really kept me going.

"They were laughing and applauding and taking pictures on every occasion, it was great."

Miles, who currently works as a motor racing mechanic, chose to dress as his childhood icon after signing up for the race last year.

His homage to the helemeted character sparked a frenzy on Twitter with onlookers desperate to find out his true identity - and some even asked Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May for help.

User @MiserableBath tweeted: ".@JeremyClarkson Mr C, loving your work. Can you tell me if the Stig was in Bath running a marathon today? We need to know. #findthestig"

While Vicky, using handle, @PaisleyStars, said: "Just passed The Stig walking, Stig-like, the Bath Half. My life is now complete".

Miles said he was surprised about all the attention he got.

He said: "I thought it would generate a bit of interest, but not on the scale that he did. I am glad that so many people enjoyed it.

"It is the first time I had ever done a half marathon, or done anything out of my running comfort zone so I'm really pleased."
