Uefa look to managers to "talk up" Europa League

Uefa are hoping to persuade club officials to boost the Europa League by speaking glowing about the competition.

Notes were discovered in the press room of a Europa League match on Thursday titled 'Discover the Drama.’

The notes have been handed out to club press officers who have been asked to brief managers.

They contain suggestions to clubs including, "The most important quality that we want to communicate is that the UEFA Europa League is dramatic,"

"The Europa League is rich in heritage having provided some of European football's most memorable moments and characters in recent years,"

Winners of the Champions League can earn a maximum of 37.4 million euros, while the most the Europa League victors can net is just under 10 million euros.

Many clubs field weakened teams in the competition. Last season former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp called the competition a "killer".

Although Redknapp's successor, Andre Villas-Boas, who won the competition with Porto in 2011, is now taking it seriously with Spurs.
