UFC Announces Dates for Return to Macao and Japan; Predicts 2015 Move Onto Mainland China

The UFC has yet to pack up its equipment and leave Macao following Saturday’s The Ultimate Fighter Finale at CotaiArena, but they already have plans to return.

The UFC’s managing director of Asia, Mark Fischer, on Saturday revealed that they will return to Macao in August.

“What I would like to confirm is based on our success in Macao, we can confirm we are going to be back in August,” said Fischer. “Currently we’re holding the date of Aug. 23 with probably an even bigger event. I don’t know if we can top this one, but we’re gonna try.”

Not only is the UFC returning to Macao in 2014, but there is also a plan in place to make a trip to Japan for the first time since Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann headlined a UFC Fight Night event in early 2013.

“The event after [Macao in August] we’ll be returning to Japan to Saitama Super Arena on Sept. 20 with a major event,” added Fischer.

Both are part of the UFC’s plans for at least six events across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East in 2014.

There are currently no plans to make it to Beijing or anywhere else in mainland China this year, but Fischer did say that mainland China is a primary target for the UFC in the future.

“We certainly have [considered mainland China]. We’re working on that,” he said. “Nothing is for sure, but I will predict that we’ll have an event on mainland China in 2015.”
