UFC Fight Night 53 Attendance Numbers: A Healthy Crowd Showed Up in Stockholm
The Ultimate Fighting Championship released the attendance numbers for UFC Fight Night 53: Nelson vs. Story following the event in Stockholm on Saturday.
10,026 spectators filled the Ericsson Globe Arena to witness the organization’s third trip to Sweden and were entertained with a fight card that featured five finishes and a couple of considerable upsets.
Rick Story ended Gunnar Nelson’s unbeaten streak in the main event by split decision. He outworked the Icelander, landing leg kicks and left hands. He dropped Nelson in the fourth round, but was unable to finish.
Max Holloway scored a quick knockout over Akira Corrasani in the co-main event. Corrasani looked good early, but a straight right hand to the jaw changed that. Holloway knocked Corrasani down, and then put him away when he got to his feet with another right hand. The 22-year-old Hawaiian is now riding a four-fight winning streak.
Jan Blachowicz took out Sweden’s Ilir Latifi in a light heavyweight bout. He delivered a liver kick that crumbled Latifi. He then finished with a series of punches on the ground.
Mike Wilkinson stunned the Swedish crowd by knocking out their countryman Niklas Backstrom to kick off the main card. Backstrom was having success and landing shots, but you’re always one punch away from a loss in the UFC. After eating a front kick to the face, Wilkinson fired back with a right hand that knocked Baskstrom down. He then put Backstrom out with a flurry of well-placed punches on the ground.
