UFC Fight Night 54 Fighter Bonuses: Kelades and Holohan Score Fight of the Night

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Saturday night landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, for the first time. While several bouts went to a decision, there were several finishes to choose from for the promotion's $50,000 post-fight bonuses. But in fact, one of the decisions accounted for the Fight of the Night honors.

Undercard fighters Chris Kelades and Patrick Holohan may have went the distance, but that wasn't necessarily a disappointment.

Holohan stormed the cage in the opening round, taking the fight to Nova Scotia's Kelades and putting him in several dangerous positions, but couldn't find the finish. Kelades turned the tide in the second and third rounds, becoming the aggressor and putting Holohan in several bad spots, but he couldn't put his opponent away either.

Despite accepting the fight on five days' notice, Kelades eventually earned a unanimous decision from the judges, but he and Holohan both secured $50,000 bonuses for their Fight of the Night effort.

Main eventer Rory MacDonald has often been criticized for the majority of his most recent victories coming by way of decision. That didn't happen on Saturday night, when he floored former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine early in the third round and finished him off with a flurry of punches. It was a strong enough finish to earn one of the Performance of the Night bonuses.

The other Performance bonus went to MacDonald's fellow Canadian Olivier Aubin-Mercier. Aubin-Mercier was a welterweight finalist on The Ultimate Fighter Nations, but fell just short, losing a split decision in the finale. He didn't fall short in Halifax, scoring a second-round inverted triangle submission on Jake Lindsey to earn the victory and the $50,000 bonus.
