UFC Headed to Albuquerque with Benson Henderson vs. Rustam Khabilov Headlining

The UFC is headed to Albuquerque, N.M., in June with former lightweight champion Benson Henderson headlining the card in a fight with Rustam Khabilov.

UFC officials announced the bout on Tuesday in a report by the Albuquerque Journal.

Henderson vs. Khabilov lands at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque on June 7.

The former UFC and WEC lightweight champion, Henderson (20-3) is coming off of a victory over Josh Thomson at UFC on Fox 11. He lost the UFC belt to Anthony Pettis in the fight prior to that.

Henderson trains at the MMA Lab in nearby Glendale, Ariz., which should make him a strong drawing card in Albuquerque.

Having fought the majority of his career in his home country of Russia, Khabilov (17-1) has won all three of his bouts inside the Octagon, defeating Vinc Pichel, Yancey Medeiros, and Jorge Masvidal.

Masvidal was a big step fro Khabilov’s career, and Henerson will be an even bigger one. A victory over the former champion would propel Khabilov into the upper echelon of the division.

The remainder of the fight card should be revealed in the coming weeks.
