UFC Targeting Rescheduled Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort Fight for February

December's UFC 181 underwent a major makeover on Monday when UFC officials revealed that middleweight champion Chris Weidman had suffered a training injury that forced him out of the Dec. 6 main event defense of his belt against Vitor Belfort.

The promotion moved swiftly, inserting returning welterweight champion Johny Hendricks into the headlining slot. He will put his belt on the line for the first time in a rematch with Robbie Lawler, the man he defeated in March to win the championship vacated by Georges St-Pierre.

A short time after announcing the UFC 181 switch, UFC president Dana White provided further detail on Weidman's injury and an expected time frame for his rescheduled bout with Belfort.

“Weidman has a hairline fracture. It will be casted 4 weeks, cleared in 6,” White wrote on Twitter. “He'll be fighting Vitor in February now.”

He fell short of giving a date or an exact event for the fight, however. Currently, the latest scheduled pay-per-view for the company is UFC 183 on Jan. 31, the NFL's Super Bowl Weekend. As of now, UFC 183 features a five-round non-title bout between returning former middleweight champion Anderson Silva and returning semi-retired fighter Nick Diaz, granted Diaz can steer clear of two recently uncovered DUI-related charges against him.
