MasterChef’s Hayden Quinn shares his advice for future contestants.

Video transcript

HAYDEN QUINN: What is the advice for anyone going or being on or coming off "MasterChef?" I think number one would be be yourself. You see a lot of people go on reality TV, and they put on a facade or a persona or try to be someone they're not. And that's really hard to keep up. No one can be that nonperson for very long. So be yourself, own who you are, be passionate about what you're passionate about.

And I guess don't let the judges or anyone sort of trick you into going down a path that's not your path. Like oh, you know, sometimes the judges are like, oh, and those avocados on your socks. Are you sure you should have avocados on your socks today? And you're like, oh, shit, am I doing something wrong [INAUDIBLE]?

It's just like focus on what you're doing, do it to the best of your abilities, and work bloody hard. That's the only thing that I can say off the back of the show. Things don't get handed to you. You've got to work for them. You've got to make the connections. You've got to work hard. You've got to show the initiative.

And you don't get to where people like, you know, Poh, Julie Goodwin, Adam Liaw, reaching those sort of people-- you don't get to that level without working bloody hard. That's the main thing.
