Neighbors recall fond memories of the late Tina Turner

STORY: Laying a single red rose on the gate of Turner's home in Kuesnacht, outside of Zurich, a neighbor, Kosta, said the singer had been “a part of my life for over 35 years”, adding that Turner was well liked in the town.

Another neighbor, Christine, said she would see Turner smiling in the town.

Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on Nov. 26, 1939, in the rural Tennessee community of Nutbush, which she described in her 1973 song "Nutbush City Limits" as a "quiet little old community, a one-horse town."

The American-born singer who left a hardscrabble farming community and abusive relationship to become one of the top recording artists of all time, died peacefully after a long illness in her Swiss home on Wednesday (May 25), her representative said.
